The Cronulla Sharks are set to release Daniel Mortimer who will Join English Club Leigh Centurions before the June 30th Deadline.
The 28-year old Utility has agreed to terms with the Leigh Centurions on a 2 and a half year deal and will join the club before the NRL June 30 Deadline.
The NRL journeyman joined the Cronulla Sharks for the 2017 season to compete for the vacant hooker spot left by the retirement of veteran hooker Michael Ennis. But with the emergence of Jayden Brailey and the signing of James Segeyaro, Mortimer’s saw his position in the pecking order at the Sharks fall.
Mortimer, who made his first appearance for the Sharks in Cronulla’s round 15 clash against the Wests Tigers, setting up a crucial try to give the Sharks a narrow victory.
Mortimer will join Bryson Goodwin, who signed with the Centurions last week, as the club looks to maintain their standing in the Super League after gaining promotion in 2017, after a 12 year stint out of the top grade.
Mortimer has made 127 NRL appearances across his four NRL Clubs, since making his debut for the parramatta Eels against the Cronulla Sharks, in the Eels 13-10 loss at Parramatta Stadium.
Leigh Centurions are expected to announce the signing within the coming days and Mortimer could make his appearance for the club as soon as round 20 when the Centurions take on the Catalans Dragons, Saturday July 1st at Stade Gilbert Brutus stadium.
