Castleford Tigers are keen on bringing Widnes Vikings star Joe Mellor to the club for 2019.
The 27-year-old is one of Widnes’ most sought-after players following their relegation from Super League last month.
Mellor joined the Vikings on a permanent deal from Wigan Warriors ahead of the 2013 season and has most recently been linked with a move to Toronto, but it is understood that move will not be happening due to him and his partner expecting a baby.
After the departure of captain Kevin Brown to Warrington Wolves at the end of 2016, Joe has been handed co-captaincy alongside Chris Houston, and has been given the number 6 jersey.
Mellor made 26 appearances for the Vikings in 2018, scoring 5 tries and having 12 try assists. He has made 172 appearances for the Vikings since making the switch from Wigan at the end of the 2012 season.
A decision on his playing future is believed to be announced in the coming weeks, with Castleford the favourites to land the play-maker.
