St George Illawarra winger Nene Macdonald has signed a three-year deal with North Queensland, as the club looks for a replacement, they may have found the man at the very club Macdonald signed with.
Several Cowboy players did not have their contracts renewed at the end of the 2018 season, including premiership-winning centre Kane Linnett. The Dragons are now believed to be in discussions with Linnett and are prepared to offer the 29-year old a 2-year deal.
Linnett started his junior career playing for the Illawarra Steelers in the 2007 SG Ball Cup, earning a contract with the St George Illawarra Dragons. Linnett played with the Dragons NYC side between 2008 and 2009, scoring 31 tries in 51 games, before joining the Sydney Roosters in 2010.
Linnett made his NRL début in Round 14 of the 2010 NRL season. He ran for over 200m and scored a try in the Roosters’ 38–6 win over the Melbourne Storm. He finished the season as a member of the Roosters’ 2010 NRL Grand Final team that lost to his junior club, the Dragons, 32–8.
At the end of the 2011 season, Linnett signed with the Cowboys, where he made 185 NRL appearances for the club, scoring 54 tries over his seven seasons with North Queensland.
Linnett made 12 appearances for North Queensland in 2018 as the club struggled towards the bottom of the ladder for the entire season but won their final two games to avoid the wooden spoon.
