Wayne Bennett’s 2020 recruitment drive for his new club the South Sydney Rabbitohs has already commenced insisting the Rabbithos to put an offer to out of favour Panther forward Trent Merrin.
Trent Merrin’a proposed move to Leeds now appears in jeopardy. As South Sydney entering the race for his services, with Bennett already focusing his energy on making Merrin a South Sydney player.
Bennett coached Merrin at the Dragons when St George Illawarra won a drought-breaking premiership in 2010. The forward NSW Origin and Test lock is believed to be on about $700,000 per season at Penrith.
He was linked with a four-year offer from Super League club Leeds Rhinos earlier this week.
