Brandin Cooks time at New Orleans looks to be numbered and is expected to be traded by the Saints in this off-season.
Cooks, 23, posted a message in November on his instagram saying: “they tell you it’s a business, Well I guess I have to turn into a businessman #shootyouarrows”.
The message came after a game where he received zero targets against the LA Rams, a game where Drew Brews had 36 attempts, 28 completions, threw for 310 yards and put 49 points on the board.
The emergence of Michael Thomas, Willie Snead and Brandon Coleman has the former Rd 1 pick 20 from Oregon State on the outer and is believed to have been placed on the trade block by the Saints.
Cooks recorded two of the four longest receptions in the NFL this season which was a 98-yard touchdown in Week 1 and an 87-yard touchdown in Week 6. He finished the season with 78 catches, 1,173 receiving yards and 8 touchdowns.
Brandin Cooks signed a 4 year, $8,383,452 contract with the New Orleans Saints, including a $4,417,056 signing bonus, $7,601,853 guaranteed, and an average annual salary of $2,095,863. In 2016, Cooks earnt a base salary of $1,182,132. Cooks has a cap hit of $2,286,396 while his dead money value is $4,172,259.
Cook current contract is set to expire at the end of the next season but there is a 5th year option, should the Saints decide to exercise the option on Cooks, the price tag would be an estimated $8.5 million.
We predict cooks to be traded before free agency opens up and we expect there will be no shortage of tackers for the 23-year old.
