D-Day has come for Jerry Jones and the Dallas Cowboys – with the Cowboys set to release Romo with a Bronco Deal Set to Happen shortly after.
John Elway is all about winning championship and 2016 proved to him that it isn’t going to happen with his current quarterback situation.
Romo, 36, is signed through 2019 and is due $14 million in 2017, $19.5 million in 2018, and $20.5 million in 2019.
These numbers are a concern for the Broncos and are numbers Elway will not even entertain. But it is understood that Elway and Romo have agreed in principle on a re-worked contract – the trade off for Romo is the chance of winning championships.
The Broncos have reportedly tabled Romo a 2-year with a option of a third worth around $10 million per season. This would allow more time for Paxton Lynch to develop under Tony Romo and eventually take over once he hangs up his boots.
With the Tony Romo deal in motion, it is believed that the Broncos will now trade Trevor Siemian to either the Buffalo Bills or San Francisco 49ers.
The Broncos – Romo deal is expected to be announced in the coming days.
