The Denver Broncos selected Ole Miss QB Chad Kelly with the final pick in the NFL Draft.
The Final pick in the NFL draft is generally know as Mr ‘Irrelevant’, but Chad Kelly is anything but that and has the potential to be the No.1 man in Denver with 18 months.
Trevor Siemian and Paxton Lynch will compete for the job this year, with Paxton Lynch the man likely to win the starting job. The reason being it really his to lose. Lynch, a former Rd.1 Draft pick that John Elway moved up to select in the 2016 Draft.
Trevor Siemian was brave last season and showed plenty of courage, but there is no denying Lynch is the QB with a higher ceiling and it will be a make or break season for both quarterback in the Mile High City.
So If Lynch and Siemian the man coach Vance Joseph and John Elway will look to turn to is Mr Irrelevant – Chad Kelly.
“It feels great,” Kelly said.
“To finally have a chance to be in the NFL is a dream come true. Now it’s just time to go out and perform and show what I can do.
“The Broncos” are going to get a guy who’s going to put in countless hours and is going to try to perform his craft at the best of his ability and just work. That’s the only way you can keep on getting better, and I’m just excited for this opportunity.”
John Elway Drafted Kelly as it was low cost with a possibility of a very high reward. John Elway has a special relationship with his uncle, Hall of Fame quarterback Jim Kelly.
“He said he’s a good kid. I trust Jim with that,” Elway said.
Broncos head coach Vance Joseph added: “He was my favorite quarterback in the draft… who has made some childish mistakes.”
What make Chad Kelly So Special?
1 Kelly has the athleticism and speed to make defenses pay.
2 The 23-year-old quarterback can read defenses and throw deep passes with accuracy. He isn’t afraid to challenge double coverages.
The reason why he slipped so far in the Draft. is his character has been brought into question, scary many NFL Teams off. But John Elway and the Denver Broncos have a foundation in place that they believe they can get the best out of the kid – Look at Von Miller!
