New Manly recruit Jackson Hasting is believed to be Trent Barrett’s starting hooker for 2017.
Hastings, 21, up until a month ago was expected to play out the 2017 season with Sydney Roosters feeder club the Wyong Roos, until Manly signed the halfback.
Hastings signed a 2-year contract with the Manly Warringah Sea Eagles starting in 2017 and with the recent departure of talented young hooker Matt Parcell, who signed a 3-year contract with Super League Club Leeds Rhino.
It is expected that Hastings and Apisai Koroisau are to fight it out in pre-season, but with the retirement of Manly club kicker and former captain, Jamie Lyon, Hasting is favoured to win the job over Koroisau.
Hasting, currently holds a 83 per cent goal kicking success rate at NRL level. Something Trent Barrett has stated he can’t ignore and will play in his final decision making for his squad for round 1.
It is understood the runner-up for the No.9 position will find a spot on Trent Barrett bench and become his utility play for 2017.
Jackson Hasting made 34 appearances for the Sydney Rooster since his debut against South Sydney Rabbitohs in the final game of the 2014 season.
