John Elway is understood looking at ways of improving his offensive line for the 2017 season and could potentially land a 7× Pro Bowl offensive lineman.
Elway knows he needs to improve the offensive line to protect his young quarterbacks and he went a long way in doing that in signing guard Ronald Leary and tackle Menelik Watson via free agency.
Elway is believed to have made contact with 7x Pro-Bowl Centre Nick Mangold, who was released by the New York Jets after 11 seasons with the team.
It is understood there is some concern of the fitness of centre Matt Paradis, who was by far the strongest Broncos player on their offensive line in 2016.
Paradis underwent two hip surgeries this offseason to alleviate pain that he was plagued with all of last season. The third-year center hasn’t missed a snap in two years.
Paradis is currently in rehab and is not expected to hit the field until August, which is believed to have John Elway a little concerned.
Mangold was plagued with an ankle injury in his last seasons with the Jets, but has stated he has overcome the injury and that his ankle is almost 100%.
It is not often that a 7x Pro Bowl player is still available on free agency, especially after the NFL Draft has taken place and teams look to put the final touches on their 2017 squad.
Mangold would serve as a solid back-up for Paradis, allowing Paradis to fully recover from the hip surgeries.
It is believed is Elway can convince Mangold to join the Broncos on a incentive based salary then it would be a massive coup for Denver as they look to continue to build on what has been a fantastic off-season.
