John Elway is set to make his shock move of the free agency period, with Adrian Peterson now a potential target.
The Minnesota Vikings chose not to pick up Adrian Peterson’s $18 million option for the 2017 season.
Peterson is now a free agent on the open market for the first time in his NFL career and the 32-year-old is now looking for a new home.
The longer Peterson is on the market, the lower his price becomes, which brings the Denver Broncos in the mix and John Elway would not be doing his job if he didn’t make a phone call to Peterson management.
The Denver Broncos aren’t necessarily desperate for help at running back – but John Elway is concerned with the durability of C.J Anderson, as he struggles to play all 16 regular games of a season and Devontae Booker was far from impressive in 2016.
Elway knows he still has a Super Bowl winning defense and he needs to everything he can to bring the flagging offense up to speed and a play-maker like Adrian Peterson would certainly do that.
It all comes down to Peterson and how much he is willing to play for in 2017 – A $4-5 million contract and the Broncos would be very much interested and still have room for a Tony Romo to join the team.
The 2o12 MVP is a 7× Pro Bowl (2007–2010, 2012, 2013, 2015) and believes he has at least two good years left in his legs, he now just needs to convince NFL teams of this.
