The Super Bowl Champs are already looking at next season and have indicated Luke Willson from the Seahawks as a Martellus Bennett replacement.
With the likely return of their star tight end Rob Gronkowski next season, the Patriots don’t want to be paying two tight ends big money and Bennett who would be a No.1 Tight end on a number of NFL teams, is likely to be allowed to enter free agency.
The patriots paid Bennett $5,085,000 in 2016, but after winning a Super Bowl with the Patriots can now demand a much higher salary in free agency as he looks to cash in on his final contract.
The Patriots are believed to be in favor of signing Seattle free agent Luke Willson who annual salary is currently 1/10 of what Bennett earned in 2016
Willson, 27, annual salary in 2016 was $584,633, which is a much more appealing number to the Patriots as they look to defend their word Championship.
After four seasons with the Seahawks, Willson finished with 976 yards and seven touchdowns on 74 receptions. Having a secondary tight end who can do both well is a great move. It would would be a fantastic cost-saving move for New England.
