We rank AFL Club’s No.1 Ruckman, 1-18 for the 2017 season.
The AFL has eliminated the third-man-up at ruck contest which will advantage the premier tap ruckman in the competition in 2017.
18 Essendon: Matthew Leuenberger
Had a good season at the Bombers in 2016, expect him to continue to improve, but only if his body can remain injury free.
17 Geelong: Zac Smith
Solid Debut season at the Cats and expect Smith to continue to grow under coach Chris Scott. Good around the ground, but is beaten too often in the ruck contest, will share rucking duties with Rhys Stanley.
16 Shaun Hampson
Won the No.1 spot from Ivan Maric in 2016, improved his tap work in the ruck contest. Now coach Damien Hardwick wants him Hampson to improve his output around the ground and especially his ability to drop back in defence.
The arrival of Toby Nankervis could see Hampson push forward in 2017.
15 Tom Nicholls
Mobile young ruckman who will only get better. Nicholls, had his best season in 2016 and the Gold Coast Suns have a lot of faith in Nicholls becoming one of the premier rucks in the competition, still alot of development required before that happens though.
