Russell Packer is believed to be set to sign a 2-year deal with the Wests Tigers for 2018 and beyond.
Packer, 27, is understood to be Ivan Cleary’s next target to sign and is hoping the signing of Packers best mate Ben Matulino will lure him away from the Dragons.
Packer signed a 2-year deal with the St. George Illawarra Dragons at the beginning of the 2016 season, receiving approval from the NRL to sign a playing contract again, after his assault conviction which saw him spend 12 months in prison.
The former Kiwi International has been strong the for the Dragons up front and the Tigers will have a fight from the Dragons to secure his services going foward.
Packers early 2017 form is expected to see him receive a call up for the Test against Australia next week.
