Who Will Captain Essendon in 2017

The 2017 AFL Season is set to be a massive year for the club with their suspended player set to return, but who will lead the club after the tumultuous events of the past four seasons.

We take a look at the possible candidates to help John Worsfold lead the Essendon Bombers out of what is said to be the darkest days at Windy Hill.

The Former Captain
Jobe Watson

Jobe Watson led the Bombers from 2010-15 and the job is understood to be his if he wants to accept or reject after returning from suspension.

Watson who will be 32-years old once round 1 kicks off, is expected to decline the role to lead the club, after struggling to find motivation to play on after being stripped of the 2012 Brownlow medal.

Even though he won’t be wearing the Captain title, Watson will still be a spiritual captain with many of the younger brigade looking upto him and watching how he goes about it.

The Current Captain
Brendon Goddard

Goddard, 31, is currently the incumbent captain of the Essendon Football club, leading the club in 2016, after the suspension of Job Watson.

Goodard was able to lead the club to 3 victories in 2016, 3 more then expected by most punters. But at 31 years old, John Worsfold and may decided to choose a captain that can lead the club for a longer period of time.

The Future Captain
Dyson Heppell

The obvious man to lead the Essendon Football is Dyson Heppell, who has already stated that he wants to lead the Bombers going forward.

When Heppell announced his loyalty to the club and re-signed with the club, it put the 24-year old in pole position to lead the club out of it’s darkest hour.

We expect Dyson to be the Essendon’s Captain in the 2017 season and beyond.

Who do you think will lead the club in 2017?
