The Player swap between Zeb Taia and talented young forward Joe Greenwood is now finalised.
Taia, 32, has agreed to terms that will see him play for super league giants St Helens until the end of the 2019 season.
Taia, returned to the NRL in 2016 making 24 appearances for the Titans after a successful stint in English Super League with the Catalan Dragons.
It was believed that Titans coach Neil Henry could not guarantee a spot for Taia after the heavy recruitment drive by the Titans at the end of the 2016 season.
Saints Head Coach Keiron Cunningham was delighted with the signing.
“We’re delighted to have signed a player of Zeb’s caliber and he will bolster our squad immediately. He is powerful, possesses a great offload and like our other signings this season, will bring big game experience to the Saints.”
The signing of Taia does allow talented young forward Joe Greenwood to take up his contract with the Gold Coast Titans a year earlier.
Cunningham was sad to see Greenwood leave the club.
“We wouldn’t want to stand in the way of any player wishing to ply their trade elsewhere and Joe has been given a good opportunity at the Gold Coast.
“It’s always difficult to lose a homegrown player and personally I will be sad to see him leave. I’ve worked hard with Joe to develop his game and help him grow as a person – and he has done just that.
“Hopefully, one day after a successful NRL career, he will pull on the Red V again.”
Taia is an 208 game veteran and has represented New Zealand and the Cook Islands at an International level.
